In May 2025, Otos carried out a pilot at Tikkurila Health Centre in Vantaa as part of the CommuniCity project, supported by the European Union and Forum Virium Helsinki.
The CommuniCity project brings together cities, communities, and innovators to co-create digital solutions for real-world urban challenges. The Tikkurila pilot focused on rethinking hearing and ear-health assessment in primary care.

Objective and implementation
The aim of the pilot was to improve access to care for adults and elderly individuals experiencing hearing difficulties by:
Reducing wait times for hearing tests;
Improving efficiency and resource allocation at the healthcare centre; and
Enhancing the overall patient experience.
Together with the Tikkurila Health Centre team, Otos co-created a system combining automated audiometry and digital otoscopy into a streamlined workflow. A total of 27 patients participated in the pilot.
“The pre-questionnaire was quick and easy to use, helping to keep the process focused and save time. Being able to record the responses during the hearing test—rather than afterward—was especially efficient. The device itself was intuitive and user-friendly." — Hearing tester, Tikkurila Health Centre
Results and feedback
Otos’ integrated solution enabled smoother workflows in the clinic. Even with conservative estimates, patient capacity could double compared to conventional practices.
“The pilot demonstrated more efficient use of staff time, improved quality of outcomes, and the ability to eliminate unnecessary steps that don’t add value to the patient or the health centre.” — Pilot host, Tikkurila Health Centre
Looking ahead
The pilot confirmed that hearing and ear-health assessments in primary care can be meaningfully improved with integrated digital tools and automated workflows. Otos remains committed to becoming the global leader in primary care hearing and ear-health assessment.
Otos is eager to continue the conversation with Tikkurila Health Centre and explore future collaboration opportunities. Learnings from this pilot will directly inform and guide the ongoing development of our technology to better serve both healthcare professionals and patients.
